Paint Is Only Part of the System

One of the biggest misconceptions in residential painting is that paint alone protects your home. It doesn't. Water almost always enters through failed caulk joints, open seams, cracked trim, deteriorated siding, or unsealed penetrations. Before any finish coats were applied, we spent significant time restoring those vulnerable areas. This included repairing damaged trim, replacing deteriorated siding where needed, rebuilding failing caulk joints, sealing gaps around windows and doors, repairing weathered exterior details, and spot priming all repaired surfaces. These repairs are what create a weather-resistant exterior — not simply applying fresh paint.

Why We Prime Repairs Before Painting

Many painting companies skip primer on repaint projects. If the existing home has paint on it, they simply paint over repairs. We don't believe that's the right approach. Whenever repairs expose bare wood, new trim, fresh caulk, or replacement siding, those areas are properly primed before finish paint is applied. Primer creates a stronger bond, seals porous materials, improves color consistency, and helps maximize the lifespan of the finish coat. Taking shortcuts during preparation often means repainting much sooner.
