Interior Painting — Luxury Home Addition

When homeowners invest in building a custom addition onto their home, the finish work is what truly brings the project to life. We were honored to be hired directly by the homeowner to complete the painting and finishing work on this beautiful new living space. This wasn't simply another paint project. Every material in the room deserved a finish that would complement the craftsmanship already invested into the build. From the vaulted ceilings to the exposed beams, natural stone fireplace, custom walnut mantel, and oversized windows overlooking the backyard, every detail needed to work together.

Choosing Premium Paint Makes a Difference

For the walls we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Interior Flat, one of the highest-performing interior paints available. A true flat finish helps minimize glare across large walls while giving the space a soft, elegant appearance. Emerald also offers excellent washability, meaning homeowners get the rich appearance of a flat paint without sacrificing durability. For the trim and millwork, we selected Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel in Semi-Gloss. This premium trim coating levels beautifully, producing an exceptionally smooth finish while providing outstanding durability against everyday wear. Instead of rushing through the project, every surface was carefully prepared before paint was applied because premium products only perform as well as the preparation underneath them.

Staining the Faux Wood Beams

One feature that immediately draws your attention is the vaulted ceiling with decorative beams. These foam beams arrived unfinished, so we custom stained them to achieve a rich walnut appearance that perfectly complemented the home's design. Proper preparation and finishing ensured a consistent color across every beam while maintaining the natural wood appearance the homeowners envisioned.

Finishing the Walnut Mantel with Rubio Monocoat

The custom walnut mantel deserved more than a traditional polyurethane. Instead, we finished it using Rubio Monocoat, one of the highest-quality hardwax oil finishes available. Rubio penetrates the wood rather than creating a thick plastic film over the surface. The result is a rich, natural appearance that enhances the grain while providing excellent protection. It leaves the walnut looking and feeling like real wood — not plastic.

It means paying attention to smooth, consistent wall finishes, crisp cut lines, clean trim transitions, uniform sheen levels, proper caulking, careful masking and protection of finished materials, and thorough cleanup before project completion.
