Covered Composite Deck in Ankeny, Iowa

When this Ankeny couple reached out to Akin Brothers Construction, their goal was simple: transform their backyard into a space they could actually enjoy. The existing deck provided a starting point, but they were looking for something more comfortable, functional, and visually appealing. We designed and built a roughly 270-square-foot covered deck that gave them a dedicated outdoor living space while providing the durability and low-maintenance benefits of composite decking.

A Backyard Built for Enjoying

One of the biggest priorities for this project was creating a space where the homeowners could spend more time outside. Rather than using a small, narrow staircase, we built a wide flight of steps that creates a more natural transition from the elevated deck to the yard. Because of the size and design of the staircase, we incorporated a support post to provide the necessary structural support while maintaining a clean finished appearance. The existing deck also had substantial concrete piers, which provided a solid foundation to work with as we built out the new structure.

Westbury Railing

To finish off the deck, we installed Westbury railing. The railing provides a clean, modern appearance while maintaining an open view of the backyard. Paired with the TimberTech Reserve decking, it gives the project the high-end look the homeowners were after without making the space feel closed in.

Built in About a Week and a Half

From start to finish, the project was completed in roughly a week and a half. Our goal on every project is to combine quality craftsmanship with an efficient construction process.
