Deck Staining Transformation

Recently, we completed a deck staining project for a homeowner whose deck had seen years of wear and use. The existing stain was peeling, weathered, and beginning to show its age. While the structure of the deck was still in good shape, the appearance had deteriorated significantly, and the homeowner wanted to bring new life back to the space while extending its lifespan for years to come.

Preparation

The project began with a thorough power washing to remove dirt, mildew, and surface contaminants. Once the deck had dried, we carefully sanded and scraped the remaining loose stain to create a clean surface for the new coating. To ensure complete coverage and a professional finish, we removed all of the aluminum balusters from the railing system, allowing us to stain areas that are often missed when railings are left assembled.

Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Stain

For this project, the homeowner chose Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Stain. A solid-color stain was the ideal solution because it covered the patchwork appearance left behind by the old failing stain and created a uniform, consistent finish across the entire deck. It also eliminated the need for the much more expensive process of sanding the deck completely down to bare wood. In addition to providing a clean, updated look, solid stain offers excellent protection, a longer service life, and a wider range of color options compared to many transparent products.

Scope of Work

The scope of work included staining the decking, railings, and fascia boards. Once completed, the transformation was dramatic. The deck looked fresh, consistent, and renewed from every angle. The solid stain provided an even finish that greatly improved the appearance of the outdoor space while adding a durable layer of protection against future weathering.
